Matthew has more than 15 years in the nonprofit sector managing programs and raising funds for arts, environmental and human services organizations in Washington, DC, Bellingham and Seattle. He has significant operations and leadership experience as former manager of three busy family support centers in Snohomish County and the Pike Market Food Bank in downtown Seattle.  Matthew has written grants extensively for foster-adoption and family service programs at Lutheran Community Services Northwest, and prior to joining BKNC he led a five-person development team as Conservation Northwest’s Development Director. On the creative end of the spectrum, Matthew enjoys moonlighting as a poet and performance artist, performing throughout the Northwest, and leading creative writing workshops for teens and adults.
